In Honor Of 'Haywire': Ten Female Badasses Tougher Than Their Male Co-Stars

Haywire

By Ryan Rigley

With the release of "Haywire" and "Underworld: Awakening" this weekend, the box office is in for a heaping helping of badass women. Both Gina Carano and Kate Beckinsale play the role of strong, female protagonist that make the men around them look like little boys. If they get stabbed or shot at, they barely even flinch. Punch them, and they'll punch you right back. These women are tough as nails, but you shouldn't think of them as woman. That would be a mistake.

Here's a list of some of the biggest and best badass female characters to ever grace the silver screen with their presence.

10. Varla (Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!)
Whether it's drag racing in the desert or seducing old men out of their fortunes, nothing is going to stop this cold-hearted stripper from getting what she wants.

9. Zoe Bell (Death Proof)
That is by far the longest I have ever seen anyone hang on to the hood of a car while it's speeding down a highway, narrowly avoiding the maniac that's trying to murder them. Also, she did all her own stunts!

8. Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)
Lara is somewhat like the female Indiana Jones, only she's not afraid of anything. Not even snakes!

7. Hit-Girl (Kick Ass)
This 11 year old is a natural born killer. After the mafia killed her dad, she killed every single one of them in retaliation. Plus, she cusses like a sailor.

6. Lisbeth Salander (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)
Murder mysteries are no match for the likes of Lisbeth. Neither are rapists or murderers. Or broken hearts.

5. Hanna (Hanna)
Forced into the life of a warrior at a very early age, Hanna knows nothing but how to be the perfect killing machine.

4. Cherry Darling (Planet Terror)
When zombies take your leg away, you don't just mope around all day waiting for them to eat you. You strap on a machine gun and you show those walking corpses who's boss.

3. Sarah Connor (Terminator 2)
Knowing that your son may be the only hope the world has against the oncoming robot apocalypse is no easy burden to bear. Especially if everyone thinks you're insane.

2. Ripley (Aliens)
"Get away from her, you bitch" is one of the most badass one-liners in all of movie history. That sweet power loader doesn't hurt either.

1. The Bride (Kill Bill)
Nothing can stop Beatrix Kiddo. This woman came back from the dead. Twice! She can break a board from inches away, sword fight with ninja-like prowess, and make a man's heart explode inside of his chest. Two words: Bad. Ass.
