Ever since J.J. Abrams' rebooted Star Trek left us with the reaction, "Yeah, that was a pretty OK Star Trek," there's been some lingering doubt over whether Abrams would return to the director's chair. We all kind of assumed he would, but his refusal to give a definitive commitment, even over two years later, raised an interesting counterpoint: hm, maybe he won't. Anyway, Vulture is now reporting a firm attachment by the director, adding that "pre-production is underway, that the script will be done by month's end and that Abrams will start shooting this winter." So, Trekkers, stop worrying about that; start worrying about if this alternate timeline will require a different set of humpback whales to save the future if the original timeline's Kirk and Spock have already taken George and Gracie from the past. Where will we find more whales???
