Charlize Theron is a Mean Girl in the First Trailer for 'Young Adult'

With trailers for 'Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close' and 'My Week With Marilyn' having debuted in the last week, precious few year-end prestige releases remain a trailer-less mystery. You can take Jason Reitman's 'Young Adult' off that list too, as its new trailer has just unfurled online. The Diablo Cody-scripted dramedy follows a children's book author-cum-adult Mean Girl (Oscar winner Charlize Theron) who returns to her hometown to stalk a now-married former high school flame. Let's stop trying to make fetch happen and watch ahead.

Initial thoughts, in staccato form: Theron-as-Rachel McAdams from 'Mean Girls' in 15 years? Yes, please. Crisp and puncturing dialogue courtesy of the always-great Ms. Cody. Dark comedy, which -- if the script reviews are accurate -- gets even darker. The last time Cody and Reitman teamed up it was for the sunshine-y 'Juno'; for all parties involved -- including Theron, in a role that on first blush seems more suited for someone like Kristen Wiig -- be excited 'Young Adult' certainly isn't that.

'Young Adult' is out Dec. 9.
